Premix was founded by Mr. Antti Kiikka in 1980 as a spin-off from the paint company Teknos. From its modest start as a local producer of black and white masterbatches, the company grew into one of the major masterbatch players in the Nordic region. Experience gained since 1972 in dispersing carbon black is utilized both in the very-high-specification carbon black masterbatch business and, since 1983, in making electrically conductive thermoplastics. Premix is now the number one European supplier in conductives. Several partners around the world make it possible to give our customers first-rate service irrespective of their geographical location.

The conductive plastic range today covers also grades made conductive with various conductive fibers, like carbon and stainless steel, metals and metal-coated particles, inherently conductive polymers (ICPs), and inherently static dissipative polymers (IDPs).

In March 2007, Premix Oy acquired the majority of the shares in Finnish technology company Optatech Oy. Optatech has two joint ventures in China; Yangzhong Opta Chemical (YOC) produces and markets non-halogen flame retardant cable compounds, and Nanjing Jinling Opta Polymer (NJOP) produces PP/EPDM and PACREL® thermoplastic elastomer base polymers.
